PLANNED UPGRADES: THIS was the planned upgrade! The original Maginot, a beta version that Auzzie piloted for a time, had no Hands
and a Standard powerplant, and was Weight-efficiencet down to
5.25 Tn(no typo!). Actually said beta wasn't really meant to be
released to the public, and when Blackhand knew one of these had
slipped to the market they offered Auzzie a free upgrade.
Less than a year later... "The newest model of Blackhand industries High End Design for the Virtual Mekton Arcade system.
Thanks to the great deal of user input from our satisfied customers,
we at Blackhand have retooled and refurbised our venerable Maginot
Design to represent the changing face of VM Gaming. A retooled
design and improved weapons codings have allowed us to install
a new prototype voice activated AI system to reduce pilot workload
by taking over most of the operation of the Sensor and ECM Systems
with an overall size increase of the Maginot of only *3* Code
Blocks!!!"
Actually, what happened was that Jaired got Auzzie to let him
take a look at the Maginot disk and did find out just how badly
constructed the original Maginot is. Aparently, there was an error
in the VM compiler that Blackhand used. Basicly, the size blocks
for certain systems got added twice by mistake, making weapons
twice as code-hungry as they should be. This lead to the realization
that they had a lot more points and a lot less weight to worry
about than they had originaly belived. In fact, correcting the
error showed that the correct weight was about what it had been
weight efficiecied down to in the last model. Jaired, being a
tinkering type, improved it and gave it back to Auzzie, despite
Auzzie's objections to using VMs not from the shelf. So, after
stripping out the weight efficency since he liked the wieght it
was, he found himself with quite a few points to work with. Rather
than tinker with the weapons or sensor suite too much, since I
didnt want a totaly new design, he put most of the point savings
into Muliplier systems. Magi got a whole new powerplant that boosted
its MV and walking, an ejection seat to cut down on the chance
of a "you died with your mech" point loss, and one Environmental
protection appropriate to the game of the week. After Auzzie kicks
a few backsides and takes names, Blackhand comes asking around
and buys the improved code from Jaired, and releases the Maginot
Improved....
...but Auzzie didn't quite liked some pf the modifications. Namely,
the Slamm Missiles, which gave it its best punch, had been omited.
Well, Jaired was able to fit them back in, but at the cost of
the improved ECM suite (It had been bumped to a lvl 3 from a 2)
and the Environmental protection.
